Harriet Toompere shared that she took up the karmoška after her older son left home and life suddenly grew quieter. Ülle Kaljuste happened to hear her practicing — and before long, a lively karmoška duo was born.
Instead of sheet music, Harriet plays from her own system of notes — instructions on which key to press in which row. “If I miss my moment, I won’t be able to join in again,” she admitted, drawing laughter from the audience.
